Pemberton Borough was originally settled in 1678, as Hampton Hanover.
This name was retained until 1752, when the village was renamed New Mills.
A  number of early settlers, recognizing the need for protection from fire,
organized themselves into a bucket brigade known as the “Ever-Readies.”
As the years passed and the village grew, it was determined to have real fire
organization, and on December 1,1818, the New Mills Fire Company was
formed. In 1826, the village was incorporated under the name of Pemberton
Borough. The Fire Company changed its name to the Pemberton Fire Company
the following year. In 1834, the name was changed to the Union Fire Company and
in 1844, to its current name of Good Will Fire Company. Equipment consisted of
hand pumpers and hose carts until 1923, when the first motorized
engine was placed in service.
